Tampa DUI Lawyer
Our Tampa DUI Lawyers understand Florida's severe DUI laws and Penalties. A conviction for a first time DUI offense can result in a possible 180 days in jail, 12 months of probation, DUI school, alcohol evaluation and treatment if deemed necessary, and an ignition interlock installed on your car. Considering the increases to car and medical insurance premiums, the total cost of a DUI conviction quickly adds up.
This of course does not include the intangible costs of a DUI conviction: the fear of potentially losing your current job, or the embarrassment of having to explain to a future employer that you have been convicted of a DUI.
You only have ten days from the date of your arrest to contest your driver's license suspension with a formal review hearing. In Tampa DUI cases, the arresting officer will take your driver's license from you if you are arrested and refuse to submit to a blood breath or urine test, or if you do submit but "blow" or test above a .08 BAC. He will issue you a "Uniform Traffic Citation" that will enable you to drive- temporarily. The UTC only allows you to drive for ten days from the date of your arrest. After that, your license will be suspended for at least a period of six months, and potentially as long as 18 months, depending on your situation. However, hope is not lost. Your DUI Attorney can request a formal review hearing, and in doing so, will get you a 42 day permit to keep you on the road. Therefore, at the very least, the 42 day permit will keep you driving long enough to make plans for when you can't drive. If the Attorney wins the formal review hearing, he will move to invalidate your suspension, and your license will be restored. At the very least, he will be able to gain addition insight and knowledge into the facts of your Drunk Driving case.
